Health and Safety

Colwall Orchard Group takes its responsibilities for health and safety (H&S) very seriously. Through its H&S policy, risk assessments and competency record systems, COG endeavours to ensure that all its members (trustees, volunteers, contractors) and any visitors are kept as safe as possible.

In particular, COG will:

  • ensure that all equipment provided for use is suitable for the intended use, safe for use, maintained in a safe condition, and where necessary inspected to ensure this remains the case.
  • ensure that, where manual handling is required (e.g. harvesting and juicing equipment), individuals involved follow the appropriate Safe Way of Working (see below).
  • ensure that a suitable number of people are trained in First Aid and maintain all first aid procedures as recommended by the HSE. In addition,  COG will support relevant Lead Volunteers in maintaining relevant qualifications.
  • minimise the storage and use of chemicals and other substances potentially hazardous to health.
