Three Counties Traditional Orchard Project
It's been a busy two years running and supporting activities in Herefordshire for TCTOP.
We have supported management of an orchard at Hildersley, several orchards in Whitbourne and 2 orchards in Breinton, providing introductory sessions, pruning training and support for a range of orchardy activities from identifiying wildlife and apples to planting new trees.
We have supported the Orchard Champion training sessions and organised training in pruning, mistletoe management, apple harvesting and jucing, grafting, apple identification, how to run events and Emergency First Aid at Work. Many of the these sessions have been delivered by our own volunteers, cascading their skills and knowledge.
We've celebrated orchards at several special events including the Buzzz family Day, a Pear conference and an exhibition about the work of Breinton artist Brian Hatton.
As we enter the final year of the project, we hope to complete work on identifying the apples in all the orchards so that we can prepare orchard management plans for their owners. The new round of Orchard Champion training starts soon. Look out for more training events and opportunities to help over the next few months.
