Colwall Orchard Group runs a series of orchard work parties approximately fortnightly throughout the winter, on alternate Fridays and Saturdays.  These cover fruit picking, tree pruning, mistletoe management and tree planting etc.  New volunteers will be given full training, but you need to join the group to be covered by our insurancce.  Work parties start at 10am and last until 3pm on Fridays and 1pm on Saturdays, usually with a coffee break mid morning - so please bring tea/coffee and a snack or lunch as appropriate.  Please wear clothing suitable for the weather and sensible sturdy shoes or wellies.

You can view our past work party achievements here (2010/11 and 2011/12)

Work parties are announced by email, and through notices on the website, as below.  There are info sheets for each orchard to give you more details about the location, access etc.  You can download the full winter schedule (work parties and events) here or view the Google Calendar below.  You might also like to check the calendar of events for the local area found on the "All About" magazine page.

Sunfold orchard is behind Sunfold House on Walwyn Road, at Grid reference SO 762 431, accessed via the Maybole/ Hunters Lodge drive (download information sheet)

a Message from our Secretary (8th June 2011):

Dear Member and supporter,

You'll know that the last year has been an exciting and productive one for the Orchard Group. We have continued and developed our programme of work in Colwall orchards and our events and activities such as the phenomenally successful Wassailing last January. In addition the purchase of Gas Orchard as a Colwall Village Garden has been concluded. It is now up and running as allotments and the community orchard and other facilities are being actively developed. To cope with this expansion of activities and responsbilities the Group at its last AGM transformed itself into a charitable limited company (The Colwall Orchard Trust) with a board of directors. We need to involve as many people as possible from the Orchard Group and from the Allotment Association and have decided to set up four committees each of which will be responsible for an area of our work. They are;

A Finance and Governance committee to deal with planning, finance and the general administration of our activities including the vital income generation from grant applications. This committee is chaired by Kath Means.

An Estates Committee to look after all practical matters to do with our property including the Colwall Village Garden, chaired by Tim Dixon.

An Events and Community Relations committee dealing with relations with our community, press and public relations and the events programme. This committee will be chaired by Ruth Kiely.

A Member Services committee to work with members and their recruitment, communication within the Group and to administer the work programme for members. The committee is chaired by Helen Stace.

We need you to become involved by volunteering to become a member of a committee and helping us take forward the Group's vital work. We have achieved a great deal in the Group's short life to date but can only go forward with your help. Please contact the chairperson of any committee you would like to join ideally within the next week (use our contact form), or ring me Tim Porter 01684 540781. You don't need to be an expert, just willing to help.

Thanks, we look forward to hearing from you.

Tim Porter, COG secretary
